The coastal Loviisa is the best small town in Finland!
The town features fabulous town architecture, a unique feeling created by historical buildings and a compact town centre. The historical lower part of town by the seaside is one of the most uniform 18th century wooden town sections in Finland.
Cobblestones, sandy alleys, sheltered courtyards and bright-coloured facades make you smile. Loviisa has the 1970s town architect Elmar Badermann to thank for preserving the lower town plan, town structure and the valuable old buildings as an intact whole.
Most of the stately 19th century stone houses surrounding the town market square have their origins in the office of the architect Georg Chiewitz.
The market square milieu remains uniquely intact.
