Visitors can not miss the bold neo-gothic church in Loviisa, since the impressive building is located at the western gateway of the city centre. Loviisa Church was built in 1863–1865. At the Loviisa Church the visitos will be greeted by a large Christ sculpture raised in the center of the altar. The oldest attraction in the church is the bible of 1642. It is the first complete bible written in Finnish.
The oldest building in Loviisa and the oldest church of the area, medieval St. Michael’s Church in Pernaja is considered a church historical treasure. The wooden church in Ruotsinpyhtää is home to the altarpiece entitled “Resurrection”, painted by Helene Schjerfbeck in 1898. It is the only altarpiece ever painted by the artist. The church in Liljendal boasts a singular bell tower.
